After three years of development and three very long years of waiting, the end is finally upon us. God of War III marks the finale to Kratos' search for revenge and properly caps off a trilogy that ranks near the very top of the best action games ever list. Yes indeed, everything does come to a complete and decisive close by the end, and though it may not be the last that we've seen of the franchise, this really is the end of this tale.

Kratos looks incredible (and deadly).
One problem with past God of War titles was that despite the fact that you'd pick up a handful of other weapons along the way, in large part they weren't very useful as your blades seemed to almost always be more effective. That's been fixed this time, and all three of the other weapons you acquire are good in almost any situation. That's even more true thanks to the fact that you can now switch between them on the fly, mid-combo, allowing you to string together big sequences will all four weapons in use. One change that we first saw in the E3 2009 demo, which resulted in a bit of controversy, is that the quick-time event button prompts that come up during kill moves are now situated at the edges of the screen, allowing you to watch what's happening and use your peripheral vision to see which button to press rather than have the prompts appear over top of the action. I'm a big fan of this change as it allows you to pay attention to the action rather than waiting to see what button appears next.

Another thing that I'm a big fan of this time around is that Sony Santa Monica uses the camera in a much more cinematic way throughout the game. No, you still don't have control over it as the camera is specifically placed in spots for each scene (it's still controlled for you, in other words), but there's a lot more play with it during cutscenes, including in-game kills. While you'll still see the slow pans here and there to show you where you should go next or what door you've just opened with a switch, other sequences where you don't have direct control over Kratos feature multiple camera cuts from some nice angles. It's great to see the team play with how the camera is used as I think there were some missed opportunities in the past.
The combat has been refined to near-perfection.

Back to the good stuff though... this of course wouldn't be a God of War game without some intense boss battles, and God of War III largely delivers in that respect. What's really cool is that there are a handful of fights that aren't executed in standard form, where you would just need to kill them before they kill you. Sony Santa Monica played with how some of these encounters could work quite a bit, and in these cases, the sequences fit the story better than if these characters just stepped up and fought with incredible combat skills

The scale in God of War III is unmatched.
As far as the videos go, The Making of God of War III is your usual behind-the-scenes, all-encompassing clip that I found to be very enjoyable. In addition to this, there are some 15-plus other videos that dive into specific aspects, including level design, the music and visual effects. It's all really good stuff and will take you a couple hours to go through if you watch all of it. And yes, it's all in HD.

►After a long wait and all the rumors Valve has announced official release of DotA 2 in 2011 which will be released on both Mac & PC. As you may already know, IceFrog was hired by Valve in late 2009 for the development of most popular Warcraft 3 Mod - DotA. Now, they are about to release Valve DotA 2 in which the whole DotA concept will be ported in upgraded manner.
The vital change in DotA 2 is that it will run on Valve's Source Engine which will remove all the Warcraft 3 limitations. All the heroes, items, terrain, buildings will be ported same as in current version of DotA. Anyone who plays Warcraft 3 - Dota will instantly recognize DotA 2. However, there are still some things which are new in DotA 2.

Following are some features Valve introduced about incoming DotA 2:

DotA 2 BloodseekerIn-game Voice Chat:
DotA 2 will have integrated voice chat feature which will allow players to communicate during game without using 3rd party software.

Leaver AI replacement:
Disconnected players will be replaced by AI bots which will take control over the hero. It will be available in unranked matches.

Heroes Voice:
DotA 2 will feature new voice work. You'll get amusing lines from heroes as they deny the enemy team last hits on creeps, and champions who have backstory connections will trade quips when nearby.

Rewards & Matchmaking System:
Valve is using it's traditional Steamworks as a matchmaking & community rewards system which will allow you to create in-game rewards for participating in community forums.

Coaching & Training System:
Once again, Valve is coming with a great innovation of coaching system which will be used to train a beginner to learn DotA 2 to sustain a respectable position in the community. It will allow veteran players to login as a coach. Coach can see beginner's screen and can get private voice chat during the game.

It is indeed a revolutionary & surprise step taken by Valve by entering in the world of MMO-RTS games with the help of IceFrog. Finally, DotA Fans had some relief after hearing some of the features of the upcoming DotA 2. The upgraded heroes are still looking remarkable in the images. It's good that Valve DotA 2 team revealed something but fans will still consider it as a drop in a ocean that IceFrog still refused to disclose his name in the community.

Stay tuned for the further updates, DotA-Utilities will be your final stop for all the news & updates for DotA 2.

►Call of Duty is the Goliath of the video game world. The series has sold millions of copies and catapulted itself from a solid, World War II shooter to the sprawling multiplayer playground and Hollywood-style campaign that we know today. Call of Duty: Black Ops takes much of what made Modern Warfare 2 great and slightly expands and modifies it. That's not to say that there aren't mistakes to be found within Black Ops, but I think Call of Duty fans are going to be happy with Treyarch's latest effort. Black Ops is not just a linear game, but sometimes feels like it's on autopilot. Just one example is when you "guide" the takeoff of an SR-71 Blackbird. I tried to not pull back on the flight stick when the game told me to, just to see if there was any other alternative to taking off, but the Blackbird lifted off on its own.

►Heroes of Newerth, which was developed in the imprint of the Defense of the Ancients modification for Warcraft III, has finally launched after some 10 months in beta testing, where tons of players pounded S2 Games' more than 400 worldwide servers with constant play sessions. The final version of the game has 60 hero characters (though a 61st is due out next week) and an overhauled interface that has been highly streamlined.
As a matter of fact, in the final game, there's only one transitional load time--when you actually start a match. In all other cases, the game has no transitions whatsoever and its many different pull-down and stat-tracking screens are opened from a single menu and can be seamlessly accessed while either in-game or while watching a replay. Replays are hugely important to S2 Games, since Heroes of Newerth is a seriously hardcore competitive game where, let's just say, skills are very important to much of the player population..
